MEDICAL SCHOOL LOANS, EXPLAINED.
Sources & our approach
OUR APPROACH

Your interests come first.

A practical starting point for understanding education loans throughout a medical career.

Built around decisions

MedStudentLoans brings together clear explanations, practical calculators, and next-step checklists. It covers premed planning, medical school, residency, fellowship, and attending life. It is an independent educational resource, not a lender, loan servicer, government agency, or financial adviser.

How we use sources

Loan rules come from Federal Student Aid, the Department of Education, official servicers, and other primary sources. Community discussions help identify questions; they do not establish eligibility. Each guide includes its sources and a source-check date. There is no claim that every page has received expert review.

How we plan to earn money

The intended business model is disclosed referral partnerships with loan providers. No paid lender offers or affiliate tracking links are currently shown. Future paid relationships will be identified near the relevant links. A lender’s commission should never determine whether a borrower is directed toward refinancing.

Free to explore

Guides, calculators, comparisons, and servicer help are available without an account. You can print your results at any time. My Loan Plan brings your school, stage, debt, and career assumptions into one guided scenario tool. Free account saving is being prepared; it will be activated after verification-email delivery is configured. You can currently download a completed plan. Core lessons and their answers will remain public.

Your information

The calculators run in your browser. This application does not send your calculator inputs to a lender or a loan servicer, and it does not ask for your Social Security number or FSA credentials. Standalone calculator inputs and checklists reset when you leave or reload the page. My Loan Plan keeps a completed draft in session storage in the current browser tab until you clear it or close the tab. It is not submitted to the service while accounts are disabled. See the dedicated privacy page for the account-saving flow. Loan school stores completed lesson IDs in this browser when local storage is available; it stores no answers or financial information. You can clear this progress from the learning page. Basic hosting request logs and a sidebar preference cookie may be used to serve the site. External sites have their own privacy policies.

Know the limits

Calculations are educational estimates with stated assumptions. Rules can change, and your account may have exceptions this site cannot evaluate. Confirm decisions with the official source; for household tax or individual financial decisions, consult a qualified professional. We do not apply for loans, change repayment plans, certify employment, or decide eligibility on your behalf.
